Avoid These Foods to Prevent Constipation

Pooping is important for your gut and your health as a whole. But, if you are suffering from constipation, this can result in fatigue, bloating, and discomfort.

This is why it is always better to eat foods with high fiber content that can ensure that you will have regular trips to the bathroom. On the other hand, you should stay away from those foods that make it more difficult for you to go.

To help your digestive tract flow smoothly, here are some of the foods you would want to cut down or avoid at all costs.

Frozen Foods

Despite being convenient, frozen meals don’t have any nutrient content that includes the fiber required by your body to have a regular bowel movement. Frozen meals also have preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and bad fat that are harder to digest. Foods with high-fat content often have low fiber content.

Greasy and Fried Foods

A quick stop at your favorite fast-food chain might instantly curb your cravings for junk food. Sadly, this will only worsen your gut problem. Greasy foods like French fries or fried chicken require longer digestion time. More grease will mean more fat and more constipation. If your bowel movement didn’t come for more than two days, you can load up on healthy lean protein diet with a generous amount of vegetables and fruits to fuel your body.

Crackers, Potato Chips, and Other Types of Processed Foods

All processed foods such as saltines, potato chips, and certain breakfast cereals don’t contain nutrients that can lengthen the time you will be constipated. It is recommended to choose whole grains over refined. It is also better to opt for whole-grain bread that contains a minimum of 3 grams of fiber for every serving. If you feel constipated, you can use oats as a replacement for breadcrumbs when preparing dishes such as breaded chicken, casseroles, or turkey burgers. Oats are also great sources of fiber that help prevent the situation from worsening.

Cookies, Cakes, and Chocolate

Sweets and desserts can jeopardize the ability of your body to properly digest foods since these are low in fiber, high in carbohydrates, and usually high in fat. Those who are dealing with digestive concerns often associate their intestinal discomfort with chocolate. However, there is no scientific research that shows that it can make you constipated. Still, it is recommended to ditch cookies and reach for raspberries every time you crave something sweet. It is easier to load up on your fiber needs through berries and fruits.

Dairy

Dairy products with high fat such as whole milk, cheese, and cream don’t have any fiber content that can aggravate constipation. You can relieve this problem if you limit your dairy consumption and add more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to your daily diet. Gas and bloating can be experienced when you have constipation and these could be signs of lactose intolerance.

Red Meat

One of the best ways to stay regular is by eating foods with low-fat content and high fiber. All types of meat from chicken, pork, to turkey don’t contain fiber but red meat is found to be the fatties that make it the hardest to digest. With red meat having higher fat compared to other meats, this may lead to more days of suffering from constipation. Although turkey, fish, and chicken don’t have any fiber content, their fat content is lower that makes them faster to digest.
