Bipolar disorder tends not to come equipped with a warning or any sort of proper arrival. Instead, the disorder has a tendency to arrive obnoxiously, like a weather application that tells you it’s sunny and suddenly decides to announce hurricane warnings before casually telling you to take your sunglasses again; all prior to breakfast. If brains had user manuals, this brain would include tiny print and missing pages, as well as be a little coffee stained.
To compound the confusion, people tend to think of emotional states as neat, compact boxes (e.g, happy, sad, tired, mildly annoyed with slow walkers). However, the human brain (especially one with major movement going on) has no need to conform to “box standards.” Instead, the brain will go ahead and invent new ways of interpreting emotions; some result in brilliant adaptations; others, like a jazz band playing together without agreement on the key being played.
Living with emotional fluctuations that aren’t predictable feels as if you’ve been the passenger and the driver of a car that randomly wants to be a boat. There is also much more to this subject than dramatic metaphors; there are confused thoughts about metaphysics. There is also humour, resilience, and the strange ability humans have to adapt even when their internal wiring seems to enjoy surprises.

The Great British Mood Forecast System
If emotions were a national service, Britain would already have a department for it. There would be spreadsheets, tea breaks, and perhaps an emergency biscuit protocol.
One moment you are reorganising your entire life, colour coding cupboards, and planning to learn Latin. The next, you are lying on the sofa wondering if plants secretly judge you. The shift can be abrupt, confusing, and occasionally inconvenient if you happen to be in a supermarket aisle debating seventeen types of soup.
Here, humor serves to transform disorder into something more controllable rather than as a means of rejection. Emotional extremes are sometimes compared to weather systems, and this is true. Clear skies in the morning and dramatic hail around lunchtime are also possible.
