Save Money on Your Working Clothes with These Tips

Buying working clothes can easily add up to a significant expense. Most of the time, your workwear is not the same as the ones you wear at home, except if you are lucky enough to be working from home.

It doesn’t matter if you are just getting started in the corporate world or you want to replace some of your work wardrobe pieces. You might end up spending a big chunk of your paycheck on your clothes alone if you aren’t too careful.

Having said that, there are several tailor-made tips that are guaranteed to help you save money on your next work clothing pieces that won’t leave your wallet threadbare but still make you look great.

Know the Norm

You wouldn’t want to end up splurging on several dresses or suits only to find out that your coworkers wear only shirts, jeans, and sneakers to work. During your interview for the position, grab that chance to get a good idea of the workplace and its culture. This should include what is appropriate for the office.  What kind of clothes do people wear to work at the company? Are they wearing dresses or suits or flip-flops or jeans?

Buying working clothes
Buying working clothes can easily add up to a significant expense.

If everyone only wears jeans and you go there on your first day in a tie and suit, you will become the new kid on the block wearing tie and suit. This also works the other way around. You should never go to the office in a T-shirt and flip-flops if the norm is business casual. Of course, you would surely want to stand out but make sure you do it by doing a great job.

How, make sure that you are still showing your true side at work. Yes, you can still be true to yourself while remaining respectful of the dress culture of the office. If you use up all your energy trying to be someone you are not, you will only waste your precious energy that you could have otherwise spent on doing your job instead.

Lastly, in some industries or at some offices, mainly those involving lots of out of office business meetings or client contact, people tend to dress in a more informal way in the office as well as more formal outfits such as suits for sales pitches, presentations, business meetings, and others.

Just because you see people at the office wearing business casual doesn’t mean that you don’t need to get a suit or any other professional working clothes made for other functions of the job. Don’t hesitate to ask your new coworkers for their suggestions.

Make the Most Out of Promotions

If you are eyeing a major brand either in-store or online, you might want to check online first to know if there are available coupons applicable. There are websites with discounts or coupons that you can use online while others can be printed out and used at the physical store in some cases.

Workwear
Most of the time, your workwear is not the same as the ones you wear at home

If you still got some time before you will be required to wear your WorkWear working clothes, keep your eyes on sale promos. There are stores that hold their sales during major holidays so remember this when searching for discounts.

You might also want to try timing bigger purchases for off-season that is, if you can still wait. Wool coats are up on a great sale when the winter months end. This can work best if you are searching for more traditional outfits such as a white blouse or grey suit. Assuming that rainbow stripes and polka dots will be trendy next summer is never a wise prediction.

If you have been blessed enough to live close to an outlet center, consider yourself lucky because you might be able to find some good discounts on workwear pieces. If the outlet shopping center closest to your home requires over one hour of driving by car, look for a friend who can tag along with you to make the most out of your day. Also, if you are not a fan of driving or you don’t have access to a vehicle, there are outlets with their own shuttle while others might be on the route of public transportation.

Pick Pieces You Can Mix and Match

Going tieless or using different ties can completely change the look of a shirt. You can also try adding gorgeous necklaces, pins, or beautiful scarves to spruce up your neutral tops. You can dress up a good pair of dark jeans with a dress shirt or dress it down with a top that is more casual.

Basic black bottoms or tops have a lot of different looks. These also look so flattering that you can be sure you can never go wrong at all. A single pair of quality black pants can give you lots of mileage as it lets you create various looks to make them suitable both for work and after work.

More neutral colors also go well with almost anything. You might also want to look for pieces that you can layer over other pieces so you can create several looks just for the price of one.

Dress Up Cheaper Pieces with Nice Accessories

Instead of spending all your money on a dress or suit, it might be better to buy something cheaper and just add a nice accessory. A great purse or good pair of working shoes can definitely go a long way. Try to invest in more timeless accessories you can use to the fullest such as a leather belt, silk tie, good handbag, beautiful scarf, great shoes, and nice jewelry. Such items can easily change how an outfit looks. There are also some accessories that can add pops of color that will draw people’s eyes to them instead on your secondhand shirt.

At the end of the day, when it comes to working clothes, it is always important to consider your budget to make sure that you can go to work in great pieces that don’t cost you an arm and a leg.
